After years of planning, we’ve found a real angler’s paradise!
The longing for unspoilt nature, crystal-clear waters and the chance to catch some of the world’s most powerful game fish is drawing anglers ever more frequently to the remote regions of eastern Indonesia. Far removed from mass tourism, this area offers a fishing ground that impresses not only with its spectacular landscapes, but above all with world-class fishing. After years of intensive exploration and numerous test trips, an expedition has been created here that combines adventure, the experience of nature and uncompromising saltwater fishing – right in the heart of the so-called ‘Ring of Fire’, one of Indonesia’s most remote and fascinating fishing grounds.
Remote islands, crystal-clear water and rugged underwater mountains!
This vast fishing ground stretches for hundreds of nautical miles and encompasses countless coral reefs, atolls, small islands and massive underwater mountains that rise from depths of several hundred metres to just below the surface. It is precisely these structures that provide ideal conditions for trophy-sized giant trevally, dogtooth tuna and numerous other aggressive reef predators. It is particularly noteworthy that large parts of this area are now protected. As a result, fish stocks have developed exceptionally well in recent years, making the region one of the most exciting destinations for ambitious saltwater anglers today.
A once-in-a-lifetime fishing trip to Indonesia!
Even the journey there gives you the feeling of setting off for another world. After several flights and an overnight stay on a remote island, the expedition itself finally begins aboard a specially equipped mother ship. Whilst the ship sails through the tropical waters overnight, guests prepare their tackle, enjoy the atmosphere on board and get in the mood for the fishing days ahead. Even before sunrise, the expedition reaches the first remote reef systems – far removed from any civilisation.
The unique feature of this trip lies primarily in the daily island hopping. To ensure we always fish the most productive spots and keep fishing pressure as low as possible, we head to a new area almost every day. The long journeys usually take place at night, so that guests can start fishing directly at the best spots in the morning. This approach not only maximises fishing time but also significantly increases the chances of exceptional catches.
The best fishing tactics in Indonesia!
A wide variety of techniques are used, adapted to suit the current, tide and underwater structure. Popper fishing along shallow reef edges is particularly spectacular, with massive GTs attacking surface lures with explosive force. Huge columns of water, screeching reels and relentless runs are a daily occurrence here. In deeper areas, jigging dominates, with jigs presented at depths ranging from 40 to 200 metres. Dogtooth tunas in particular provide brutal fights there, pushing even experienced anglers to their physical and mental limits.
A typical day’s fishing begins in the early hours of the morning. After breakfast, we head out in the centre-console boats to the first spots. The day’s schedule is consistently tailored to tides, currents and weather conditions to maximise the chances of a catch. At midday, guests return to the mother ship, which is always moored in close proximity to the fishing grounds. This creates a relaxed rhythm between intensive fishing, relaxation and shared meals on board. However, the day is by no means always over after sunset – when conditions are right, jigging often continues well into the night. It is precisely then that large predators roam the deeper areas of the reefs, providing unforgettable moments.
Fishing far from civilisation
But this expedition is not just about fishing. It is, above all, the sense of complete seclusion that makes this trip so special. Vast coral reefs stretch out beneath crystal-clear waters, whilst small tropical islands drift by on the horizon. Sunrises in the middle of the open sea, starry nights and the tranquillity of being far removed from civilisation create an atmosphere that can be experienced in only a few places in the world.
The Mothership
On board, too, everything is designed to ensure you can spend several days in comfort in this remote region. The modernised mother ship offers air-conditioned cabins, spacious communal areas and ample room for tackle and equipment. The expedition is supported by modern dinghies, which are specially equipped for popper fishing and jigging in both the shallow and deep areas of the fishing grounds. Modern navigation technology, fishfinders and ample freedom of movement ensure efficient and comfortable fishing, even in challenging conditions.
Great catches & lasting memories
At the end of this journey, you’ll take away far more than just memories of spectacular catches. It’s the feeling of having been, for a brief moment, part of an almost untouched world. A world of wild currents, endless coral reefs and powerful predators of the sea. Anyone who has ever witnessed a massive giant trevally exploding a surface lure, or a dogtooth tuna making the drag sizzle in the depths of the ocean, will never forget those moments. That is precisely what makes this expedition far more than just a fishing holiday – it becomes a true adventure right at the heart of Indonesia’s Ring of Fire.
Who is the fishing trip to Indonesia suitable for?
The fishing trip to the Ring of Fire is aimed primarily at keen anglers who love popping and jigging. Due to the remoteness of the fishing grounds, there are limited opportunities to fish around the many islands.
The mother ship is the only way to fish the area effectively. This trip features a shared dormitory with eight single beds. The mother ship is fully air-conditioned! No sweltering cabins and no sharing of double beds, as is often the case on other mother ship fishing trips!
Participants should be able to cope with living together on a mother ship and the associated limited space. In return, however, you gain access to an unfished area that is unique in the world!
